Foreign Policy Expert and Author

Dr. Mariya Y. Omelicheva is  an expert on foreign and security policy, regional security cooperation, and the crime-terror nexus in Eurasia. She is the author of multiple books – COVID-19 Humanitarianisms: The Geopolitical Logics of Chinese, American, and Russian Assistance (BRILL, 2024); Webs of Corruption: Trafficking-Terrorism Nexus in Central Asia (Columbia University Press, 2019); Democracy in Central Asia: Competing Perspectives and Alternate Strategies (University Press of Kentucky 2015); and Counterterrorism Policies in Central Asia (Routledge 2011) – and over a hundred of peer-reviewed articles.  Dr. Omelicheva’s work bridges academia, military education, and public policy, and she has advised institutions such as the U.S. Helsinki Commission, the State Department, and congressional offices. Dr. Omelicheva holds a PhD (2007) in Political Science from Purdue University and JD in International Law (2000) from Moscow National Law Academy.
